L.A. Times Addict blog

Monty Evans has started a new blog about the LA Times. I hope he keeps it up because he’s funny. I especially like his spot-on critique of the LA Times Sunday Magazine. I feel exactly the same way Monty does about the Times Magazine. Every Sunday, I curse myself for wasting 30 seconds flipping through it in the vain hope that it’ll have something interesting in it.

The LA Times Sunday Magazine sucks. This Sunday’s is a fine example: Who wants to read about home-made funerals? Hey editors: Just because it’s on a serious subject, doesn’t mean it should lead. The Times magazine needs a lot of work. The NY Times magazine kills it every week. Perhaps if they had some more interesting stories, profiles, etc in there, people would get excited about reading it. As a suggestion, today’s Calendar section has a terrific profile on Sherry Lansing and her long career at Paramount. This should have been on the front cover of the magazine. After all, she’s had more impact and influence on L.A. than these fucking crazy people who want to bury Granmda Millie in the backyard. Also, the gardens section of the magazine just gets tedious. Here’s a thought: Why not put the gardens crap in the REAL ESTATE section, where it belongs?! There has GOT to be more interesting stories to include than wasting valuable glossy picture space on rich jerks’ gardens. How about some good old fashion investigative journalism?
