Because the pulps were considered nonessentail trash by the Canadian war department during WWII, they were not imported from the US. As a result, the war was a golden age for Canadian genre writers, who found themselves with a sellers market of hundreds of made-in-Canada pulps with names like "Exciting Monkey Bum Stories for Boys" (well, maybe not exactly like that), hungry for their work.
